Blink 182 Made Pop Punk History With Take Off Your Pants And Jacket

Today marks 25 years since Blink 182 released Take Off Your Pants And Jacket, the album that helped take the band from pop punk stars to genuine mainstream heavyweights..

Released on June 12, 2001, the record became the first pop punk album to debut at number one on the Billboard 200, a huge milestone not only for Blink 182 but for the genre as a whole. Arriving just two years after Enema Of The State, it proved the band were far more than a passing MTV phenomenon and cemented their place among the biggest rock bands in the world.

The album produced some of the band’s most enduring songs, including The Rock Show, First Date and Stay Together For The Kids. While it delivered the humour and energy fans had come to expect, it also hinted at the more mature and ambitious direction that would eventually lead to their self titled album in 2003.

What makes this anniversary even more special is that fans are finally getting something they’ve been asking for for so many years. As part of the album’s 25th anniversary celebrations, Blink 182 have officially released the long sought after bonus tracks to streaming services. Originally spread across three limited CD versions of the album in 2001, songs such as Time To Break Up, Don’t Tell Me It’s Over and What Went Wrong became fan favourites that many listeners could only access through physical copies, YouTube uploads or old downloads. After years of requests, they’re now finally available alongside the standard album.

Looking back, Take Off Your Pants And Jacket remains one of the defining records of the pop punk boom. It sold millions of copies worldwide, launched multiple hit singles and influenced countless bands that followed. From Neck Deep covering Don’t Tell Me It’s Over to newer generations discovering the album through streaming, its impact can still be felt today.

Twenty five years later, Take Off Your Pants And Jacket is still a reminder of the moment Blink 182 helped take pop punk to the very top.
