Deaf Havana Announce New Album We’re Never Getting Out, Share Reflective New Single ‘Lawn Tennis’

Deaf Havana are back—and they’ve never sounded more honest. The British alt-rock veterans have announced their seventh studio album, We’re Never Getting Out, set for release on October 3rd via SO Recordings. Alongside the announcement comes a raw, punchy new single titled “Lawn Tennis” and news of a one-off intimate show at London’s Omeara on May 22nd.

For frontman James Veck-Gilodi, this new chapter isn’t just about music—it’s about survival. “I’ve always wanted to change myself,” he reflects. “But I’ve also never really owned up to and accepted my mistakes.” We’re Never Getting Out is the product of a deeply personal transformation, one marked by self-confrontation, heartbreak, and a desire to reclaim joy in the creative process.

“Lawn Tennis” sets the tone with biting lyrics about resisting the so-called “perfect life.” It’s both sarcastic and sincere—delivered in the band’s signature blend of melody and melancholy. As Veck-Gilodi puts it, the track is about not settling for a mundane routine: “losing friends to a perfect lawn, like there’s nothing more to life.”

This renewed energy follows a major turning point for the band. James scrapped an entire album and ended a long-unhappy marriage in 2024, both difficult decisions that ultimately led to a more authentic version of Deaf Havana. Instead of reverting to the safe, familiar sounds of the past, he teamed up with producer George Glew and began experimenting—right from his spare room. The result? An album that fuses the band’s rock roots with bold, modern textures and fearless vulnerability.

Despite the creative breakthroughs, the recording process wasn’t easy. “It’s the only time I’ve truly hated making an album,” James admits. But from that discomfort emerged something deeply resonant. Contributions from Ross McDonald (The 1975) and drummer Freddie Sheed add even more depth to a sound that pulls from influences like Springsteen, Weezer, and Bon Iver.

The album’s title, We’re Never Getting Out, is a nod to the inescapable nature of our pasts—and the emotional weight they carry. But rather than running from it, Deaf Havana are choosing to face it head-on, creating music that is as cathartic as it is catchy.

“This is the best Deaf Havana album,” James says confidently. “I’ve never been clearer about what this all is.”

We’re Never Getting Out is available to pre-order now at deafhavana.com, and fans can get a first taste of the new material live at their May 22nd Omeara show.
