Self Defense Family are back with their first new music in six years, releasing the brand new single Reclusion today via Run For Cover Records.
Fronted by Drug Church vocalist Patrick Kindlon, the ever changing collective has remained largely quiet in recent years. Aside from a live album released in 2023, the band’s last new material arrived as a two song release in 2020, making Reclusion their first fresh studio recording in six years.
Kindlon also hinted that Reclusion could be the start of something bigger. Speaking about the writing process, he explained that he has been trying to focus his lyrics on family and personal relationships, while admitting those themes still end up reflecting feelings of isolation. He also revealed that the band recorded new material last year but has been taking extra time to perfect the lyrics, saying some of the songs are about subjects he wants to “get right the first time” as those closest to him grow older.
The release also marks Self Defense Family’s return to the stage. The band have announced a handful of rare US live appearances across July and August, including shows alongside Fiddlehead and Ink & Dagger, giving fans another chance to catch the group after several quiet years.
