Native James has officially kicked off a new chapter in his career, returning with brand new single ‘Never Been Scared’ while announcing his signing to SharpTone Records.
The track sees the Ipswich artist team up with grime legend Frisco, best known as a member of Boy Better Know, blending Native James’ unmistakable mix of grime, rap, punk, rock and metal. Alongside the release, the pair have also shared an official music video directed by long time collaborator Reece Selvadorai.
The single has already made its live debut, with Frisco joining Native James on stage during Download Festival last month. The performance packed out the Avalanche Stage tent and marked one of the few times a grime artist has appeared as a guest during a rock set at the festival.
Speaking about the track, Native James said: “Never Been Scared is what it says on the tin. This song is for people who have felt a time where they need to overcome something, whether that be your personal best, an exam, getting up to face challenges at work, life itself. It’s a power play to your internal, to remind yourself you can overcome whatever you want.”
Alongside the new music comes the announcement that Native James has signed with SharpTone Records, joining a roster that includes Loathe, Unpeople and Dying Wish. Reflecting on the signing, he said: “I can honestly say it’s insane that I’m signed to SharpTone. It feels like this will be a mad chapter for me. I’m gassed, I won’t lie to you, and can’t wait to start working to give you more music.”
The release continues a huge run of momentum for Native James, who has supported Enter Shikari, Don Broco and Nova Twins, appeared at Download Festival, 2000trees, Latitude and dates across Europe. Following a breakthrough 2025 that included a MOBO nomination and his first Glastonbury performances, Never Been Scared marks the beginning of an exciting new era!
