Punk icons NOFX have announced the release of 40 Years Of Fuckin’ Up: Soundtrack + Score, the official soundtrack companion to their career-spanning documentary film, arriving everywhere on August 28.
The massive double LP release ties into the band’s documentary 40 Years Of Fuckin’ Up, which premiered at SXSW earlier this year before landing official selections at the San Francisco International Film Festival and the Cannes Film Festival. According to the band, upcoming screenings have already been selling out months in advance.
The release itself is split into two parts. Alongside an 11 track orchestral score composed by Fat Mike, fans are also getting a 15 track soundtrack featuring two brand new NOFX songs: “40 Years Of Fuckin’ Up” and “We Did It Our Way”. The latter is being described as the final NOFX song ever intended to be performed live.
Elsewhere, the collection includes a mix of rare recordings, demos, live tracks and covers, including “Secret Society (demo)”, “On The Road (recorded in Omaha in 1986)” and a cover of “La Bamba”. Live versions of classics like “Linoleum” and “NOFX” also make the cut.
Director James Buddy Day said the response to the documentary has become “bigger than” just a film, adding that screenings have turned into celebrations of the band and punk rock culture itself.
El Hefe also reflected on the DIY approach behind the project, saying the band wanted the documentary to feel like a proper send off for longtime fans while staying true to how NOFX have operated for more than four decades.
The soundtrack will be released as a deluxe double LP featuring a 24 page retrospective photo book packed with rare and previously unseen images from throughout the band’s career, alongside original artwork by Tokyo Hiro.
