Death Cab for Cutie have released a new single called ‘Punching The Flowers’, taken from their upcoming album I Built You A Tower, which is set to arrive on June 5 via ANTI- Records.
The track marks the second preview of the band’s 11th studio album and comes as they step back into their independent roots after two decades with Atlantic Records. The record was put together across a short run of sessions in Los Angeles and various home studios, following a period that saw the band celebrating the anniversaries of Transatlanticism and Plans on a global scale.
Frontman Benjamin Gibbard explained the meaning behind the new single, saying: “’Punching the Flowers’ is a song about stagnation and the feeling of being imprisoned by The Known. And about the damage done when someone ventures deeper into the unknown.”

The release arrives ahead of a busy run of shows later this year, with the band heading across Europe and the UK in September and October. Stops include Manchester, Edinburgh, Bristol and two nights in London, alongside dates in Dublin, Paris and Berlin, with support coming from Pool Kids.
