Koyo are back with another new track, dropping ‘You Hate Me’ alongside a fresh video as they gear up for their second album Barely Here, arriving May 8 via Pure Noise Records!
The Long Island band have been steadily building momentum since their debut Would You Miss It?, and Barely Here looks set to push things further. The album runs ten tracks in just 28 minutes, keeping things tight and direct. Earlier singles ‘Irreversible’ and ‘What I’m Worth’ gave a glimpse into what’s coming, and ‘You Hate Me’ continues that rollout as the final preview before release.
Speaking on the direction of the record, vocalist Joey Chiaramonte explained that the band intentionally avoided trying to go bigger this time around. “A lot of bands think their second album has to be this magnum opus epic that sews so many things together, and I think we’d actually taken more of that approach with our first LP. So with Barely Here we wanted to do the opposite of that trajectory. We wanted to refine our strengths instead of doing this purposeful departure. It’s a snapshot of what our band is in its most no frills, perfected form.”
The album was produced, engineered, and mixed by Jon Markson, with guest appearances from Sammy Ciaramitaro of Drain and Marisa Shirar of Fleshwater. Alongside the release, Koyo have a packed schedule lined up, including shows across Japan, North America dates with Hot Mulligan and Joyce Manor, plus festival slots at Sound and Fury and Louder Than Life.

With Barely Here just weeks away, ‘You Hate Me’ feels like the final piece of the puzzle before everything lands.
