Downward just signed to Pure Noise and they’re worth your time

Shoegaze and indie rock outfit Downward have officially signed to Pure Noise Records, and they’re not wasting any time. Alongside the announcement, the band have re-released their album Downward II in a deluxe format, now featuring two brand new tracks, “Get Some” and “Drawl,” both out now on streaming.

The Tulsa band have been building momentum for a while, originally forming while members Isaac Richardson and Pugh were still in school. What started as a rough-around-the-edges shoegaze project quickly evolved into something more defined on Downward II, a record that helped establish their identity. The deluxe re-release marks a new chapter, bringing fresh material into the mix while giving the album a proper physical push.

The record was originally recorded and engineered by Kendal Osborne at The Closet Studios in Tulsa, with contributions from former guitarist Hunter Senft. It’s a project that clearly meant a lot to the band at the time, and this updated version gives it a second life with added depth through the new tracks.

On top of that, Downward are also pressing their debut EP The Brass Tax on vinyl for the first time, including previously unreleased bonus tracks, giving fans even more to dig into from their early days.

If you’re looking to catch them live, they’re currently out in North America supporting Soul Blind through April and May, before heading over to the UK this September for a run of dates with Drug Church, including stops in Leeds, Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol and London.
