Free Throw Release New Album Moments Before The Wind and Drop “MissingNo.” Video

Free Throw are back with their long-awaited new album Moments Before The Wind, out now via Wax Bodega.

Alongside the release, the band have shared a new video for opening track “MissingNo.”, giving fans a first visual taste of the record.

If you’ve followed Free Throw over the years, this album feels like a natural evolution. Still rooted in that mix of Midwest emo guitar work and punchy, rough-edged energy, but with a bit more weight behind it this time around.

Lyrically, Moments Before The Wind leans heavily into change. Vocalist Cory Castro describes the album as exploring “liminality,” that feeling of being stuck between phases of life, not quite moving forward but not where you used to be either.

That idea runs through the entire record, which was written during a period of major personal change for Castro. From the end of a long-term relationship to finding out he was going to be a father mid-recording, the album captures that shift from uncertainty into something new.

You can hear that progression across the tracklist too. It starts in a more unsettled place before gradually building toward something more resolved, especially on closing track “The Waters Of Life.”

Sonically, the band teamed up once again with producer Brett Romnes, giving the album a familiar feel while still allowing room for new ideas to come through.

Now six albums in, Free Throw aren’t reinventing themselves completely, but they don’t need to. This is them refining what they do best while letting the real life moments behind it hit a bit harder.

With US, UK, and EU shows lined up for 2026, it feels like this record is built to translate straight into those live settings.
