Hands Like Houses Release New Album “ATMOSPHERICS”

Canberra rock outfit Hands Like Houses have officially released their new album, ATMOSPHERICS, a 16-track double LP that marks a defining new chapter for the band. Hailed by Rock Sound as “their most ambitious project yet” and “a masterclass in soaring melodies and anthemic choruses,” the album is out now via Civilians.

Alongside the release, Hands Like Houses have dropped a music video for “The End,” a standout track from the record. Watch the video below.

A New Era for Hands Like Houses

Described as an album built on “life lessons and experiences,” ATMOSPHERICS comes after a period of uncertainty for the band. “No one thought it would ever exist,” the band shares. “The creative environments of the past had been clouded by so many obstacles, but now there’s a fresh start—an opportunity to redefine what it means to be a band again.”

The record is divided into four volumes—Tropo(sphere), Strato(sphere), Meso(sphere), and Thermo(sphere)—each representing a different phase of the band’s evolution. The project was largely shaped by frontman Josh Raven, whose addition helped reinvigorate the group’s creative process.

“The idea for ATMOSPHERICS came during one of the low points in our career,” explains bassist Joel Tyrrell. “Everything we knew had been swept away, and we really didn’t know if we would continue as a band. But when we looked back, some of our happiest moments were with this band, so we decided to reshape our future.”

Redefining Their Sound

Hands Like Houses approached the album with a renewed sense of purpose, embracing a more fluid and collaborative songwriting process. “The idea of floating through the different layers of the atmosphere to see what we could create together painted such a nice picture for how things were evolving,” the band explains. “We removed the pressure we used to place on ourselves. The songs didn’t have to fit a particular sound—they could just exist as moments in time, tied to the layers of our atmosphere.”

This creative freedom led them to work with a variety of collaborators, including metalcore legend Aaron Gillespie (Underoath, The Almost) on “Better Before,” The Getaway Plan on “Paradise,” and Kellin Quinn (Sleeping With Sirens) on “Obey.” However, it was their reconnection with Josh Raven that solidified their new identity.

A Bright Future Ahead

With ATMOSPHERICS, Hands Like Houses have not only reinvented their sound but also redefined what it means to be an independent band. “It’s our largest project to date and the start of a very exciting time for us,” the band says. “We hope you enjoy it—it’s very much just the beginning.”
