Los Angeles alternative rock band Kiss The Scientist have released their new single Idyllwild, CA, alongside their first ever music video, directed by Matty Vogel, whose previous work includes Billie Eilish and Pierce The Veil.

The track is the latest taste of the band’s upcoming debut album, which has yet to be officially announced and will arrive through Take This To Heart Records and In Bloom.

For vocalist and guitarist Max Tomack-Villalobos, the song explores something that doesn’t always get talked about enough: the end of a close friendship.

“To me, I think it’s about some of the emotions you cycle through immediately following a fall out with one of your closest friends. You’re gonna regret the things you said, you’re gonna regret the way things ended and you’re never gonna want to open up to somebody again when they use personal things against you.”

The release also brings together some familiar names from the alternative scene. Kyle Black, who has worked with Paramore and New Found Glory, recorded the drums, while Vince Ratti, known for his work with Tigers Jaw, Title Fight and The Menzingers, handled mixing.

For the accompanying video, the band took inspiration from The 1975’s Me & You Together Song and Green Day’s Longview, drawing on the bedroom settings featured in both videos.

Tomack-Villalobos explained that the idea had been discussed for some time before everything came together with Vogel and Eric Daniels.

“We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better team of people to do our first ever music video with, and we’re so excited for everyone to check out all the fun, love and hard work that got put into this video!”

Kiss The Scientist will also be heading out on the road this October, with shows in Chicago, St. Louis, Nashville, New Orleans and Atlanta, alongside an appearance at THE FEST in Gainesville, Florida!
