Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker has helped make a young musician’s dream come true after surprising him with a brand new drum kit and an invitation to visit his studio.
The moment was captured in a video shared by content creator Dhar Mann as part of his Hope Wins series, which follows people facing difficult circumstances and surprises them with support.
The video introduces a 14-year-old aspiring drummer who has been playing for nine years but has been unable to afford his own kit. Alongside pursuing his passion for music, the teenager helps care for his mum, who lives with multiple sclerosis and fibromyalgia.
Speaking about their daily lives, his mum explained how her health conditions have meant her son has taken on responsibilities well beyond his age, including helping her get out of bed and assisting with everyday tasks.
Despite their circumstances, the teenager remains determined to pursue music, naming Travis Barker as one of his biggest inspirations.
“Travis Barker, he really goes hard on stage. That’s really what music is about, you know, pouring out into the fans and giving it all what you have,” he explained.
After receiving a surprise $10,000 gift through a partnership with financial app OnePay, the teenager was introduced to Barker himself.
The Blink-182 drummer spent time speaking with the young musician about his passion for drumming, encouraging him to inspire other students at his school to pick up an instrument.
Barker then revealed another surprise: a brand new Yamaha drum kit.
The surprises didn’t end there, either. Barker invited the teenager to see his studio, showed him his collection of drums and offered to exchange contact details so they could play together in the future.
For a teenager who had been saving towards his first drum kit while helping support his mum, it was an opportunity to meet one of his musical heroes and take another step towards his dream!
