On September 27th, 2014, Neck Deep played an intimate acoustic headline show in their hometown of Wrexham. Almost 12 years later, we’ve gone back into the archive to share footage from the night, including material that has rarely been seen before.
The show took place at Undegun, an independent art space operating from the former JJB Sports building in Wrexham town centre. Downcast (Formally Highlives) and local band Doppelgänger opened the night before Neck Deep took over for a stripped-back headline set.
It came during an important early period for the band. Neck Deep had released their debut album Wishful Thinking earlier that year, following the Rain In July and A History Of Bad Decisions EPs. The Wrexham show saw them pull from that early catalogue alongside covers, all performed acoustically in front of a hometown crowd.
The night was captured by Ben Jones, who was just 16 at the time. Ben filmed the build-up and behind-the-scenes moments before capturing Neck Deep’s performance. The footage was intended to become a larger project, but those plans were eventually scrapped and the recordings ended up sitting in storage for years.
Parts of the footage were eventually shared, but much of what was captured that night has spent the best part of the last decade sitting in the archive, with some footage never previously made public.
We’ve now decided to bring it back out and release the show across five parts, giving a look back at Neck Deep playing an intimate acoustic set in the town where it all began.
There is a small piece of our own history attached to the night too. The show was booked by This Gig, the name we operated under before eventually becoming Reckless Press, and was the first show we ever put on.
