Dexter And The Moonrocks have announced their new full length album Friends That I Don’t Like, arriving October 2nd via Severance Records and Big Loud Rock.
The announcement comes during a huge year for the Texas band, with breakout single “Freakin’ Out” now officially certified Platinum by the RIAA. The track has also spent five weeks at number one on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart and racked up more than 300 million global streams.
Alongside the album news, the band have released new single “It’s A Lot”, which guitarist Ryan Anderson says reflects some of the pressures that have come with their sudden rise.
“The effort put forward to make the most of a life changing moment, though worth it, brings all brand new challenges,” he explains. “We couldn’t be more thankful for where we are now, but to four kids from small town Texas, sometimes it can be a lot.”
Friends That I Don’t Like also represents the band becoming increasingly comfortable with not fitting neatly into one genre. Their music has picked up everything from country and grunge to alternative and southern rock comparisons, something drummer Fox says they have stopped worrying about.
“Are we country, grunge, alt rock, southern rock? Honestly, who cares,” he says. “All I know is that we’re here and we aren’t going anywhere.”
The record will include previously released tracks “If You Could Talk”, “12 Steps” featuring Treaty Oak Revival and “Freakin’ Out”, with the complete tracklist still to be revealed.
Before then, Dexter And The Moonrocks will hit another major career milestone tomorrow night when they make their late night television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, performing their newly Platinum certified “Freakin’ Out”.
