There’s something really fun about hearing a band hit that moment where everything starts clicking into place and that’s exactly what Show The World What’s Underneath feels like for Super Sometimes. The San Diego trio have already been building serious momentum over the last couple of years, but this record feels like the point where they properly arrive.

“Afterthought” wastes absolutely no time kicking things off either. Loud, fast and packed with massive hooks, it’s exactly the sort of opener you’d expect from the band. Big riffs, ridiculously catchy choruses and enough energy to instantly throw you back into that golden era of mid 2010s pop punk. Honestly, parts of this album feel like they were pulled straight out of 2015 in the best way possible.
What makes the record work so well though is that it still sounds unmistakably like Super Sometimes. The melodies, the humour, the youthful chaos and emotion are all still there, but this time around everything feels sharper and more polished without losing what made people connect with them in the first place. Vocally, there are moments that really bring back memories of Seaway, especially in the way the vocals bounce between gritty urgency and huge melodic delivery throughout the album.
Tracks like “Always You” immediately stand out as some of the strongest moments on the record, while “Common Place” brings in a more emotional side that almost feels like something straight out of Busted at times. There’s this nostalgic feeling running through the album that makes it feel instantly familiar while still sounding fresh enough to stand on its own.
More than anything though, this feels like a massive statement from a band that genuinely have an exciting future ahead of them. Super Sometimes already had the songs and the personality, but Show The World What’s Underneath feels like the moment they fully figured out how to turn all of that into a proper full length release. For a debut album, this is seriously impressive stuff and the lads should be proud of what they’ve pulled together here.
