Adelaide alternative metal band alt. are back with a new single, “They’ve Always Lived In The Castle”, out now through Resist Records and SharpTone Records.
The track builds on the world they started shaping with “Sucker Punch”, but pushes things further. Where that last release felt like a breaking point, this one leans into what comes next. It’s centred around themes of power, control and the moment people decide they’ve had enough.
Speaking on the track, the band said: “They’ve Always Lived In The Castle confronts a world where power has always protected itself. Where the wealthy remain untouched, and those at the top tighten their grip while the rest are left behind. The song channels a moment when people decide they’ve had enough and rise to reclaim their lives.”
Sonically, it continues the darker direction the band have been moving in since signing to Resist and SharpTone, with production handled by Callan Orr, known for his work with Dream On Dreamer and Hands Like Houses.
The release also comes with a new music video that flips a normal living room setting into something far more chaotic as the track unfolds, matching the tension and message behind the song.
alt. have been steadily building momentum since forming in 2019, blending elements of punk, pop, electronic and alternative rock. Their debut EP dysfunctional picked up millions of streams early on, and since then they’ve shared stages with the likes of Don Broco, Enter Shikari and Dayseeker, while also earning support from BBC Radio 1.
Following their 2023 debut album ABEYANCE, this new run of singles feels like the next chapter for the band. With both “Sucker Punch” and “They’ve Always Lived In The Castle” now out, it’s clear they’re leaning fully into a heavier and more focused sound.
