Midwinter Pop the Bottle on Something Darker With New Single “Champagne”

Atmospheric metalcore newcomers Midwinter are back with a brand new track, Champagne, and it’s one of those releases that sticks with you long after the first listen.

Out now via Papercut Recordings, Champagne leans into everything Midwinter do best. Crushing heaviness meets shimmering electronics, soaring vocals collide with jarring textures, and somewhere in the middle is a seriously emotional core. It’s cinematic, immersive, and packed with contrast.

The band explain that Champagne uses celebration as a metaphor. It’s about escapism and temporary highs, masking deeper feelings of abandonment and betrayal. Parts of the song feel nostalgic and almost beautiful, before dropping you straight back into darker territory. That push and pull between hope and hurt is what gives the track its weight.

The accompanying music video doubles down on that idea, pulling inspiration from the Roaring Twenties and pairing glamorous visuals with a story rooted in emotional distance. It’s stylish, uncomfortable in the right ways, and fits the song perfectly.

If you’re new to Midwinter, this feels like a proper introduction to their world. They blend progressive metalcore with ambient layers and glitchy production, creating something that feels heavy without losing its sense of atmosphere. It’s thoughtful music you can still throw down to, which is always a win.

They’ll also be taking Champagne on the road this spring alongside Unprocessed and Allt, bringing this new era straight to North American stages.

If this track is anything to go by, Midwinter are only just getting started. Definitely one to keep on your radar this year.
