Spite House’s ‘10 Days’ Is Punk Rock With a Lump in Its Throat

Montreal punks Spite House aren’t here to just fill your playlist—they’re here to rattle it. With their sophomore album Desertion dropping September 12 via Pure Noise Records, they’ve just released one more taste before the full thing hits: “10 Days.” And trust me, this one hits deep.

The track pulls from the spirit of ‘90s punk icons like Seaweed, Knapsack, and Dear You-era Jawbreaker, but filters it through Spite House’s own post-hardcore urgency. It’s the kind of song that could spark a pile-on at a sweaty basement gig or leave you staring at the ceiling at 2am—sometimes both at once.

Frontman Max Lajoie wrote “10 Days” about losing his mum to cancer, just 10 days after her diagnosis. It’s heavy, raw, and unflinchingly honest—reflecting on regret, love, and the way time can move far too quickly when you want it to stop. The music video leans into that emotion, showing imagined fragments of what was happening back home while he was gone—moments that are quietly devastating in their simplicity.

Desertion tackles grief head-on, shaped by the loss of both of Lajoie’s parents. It’s not a comfortable record, but it’s one that feels vital. At just 29 minutes, it’s urgent, cathartic, and refuses to hold anything back.

Desertion is due out 12th September 2025 via Pure Noise Records HERE

Spite House are about to take these songs out on the road, with European and North American shows coming up alongside The Dirty Nil and Heart Attack Man. If “10 Days” is anything to go by, these sets are going to be intense, emotional, and unforgettable—you can find tickets on their socials or the Pure Noise site.
