Pop Punk, Bad Decisions & Big Suits: 23 Years of Drunk Enough To Dance

Bowling For Soup’s breakthrough album Drunk Enough To Dance turns 23 today—and somehow, it’s still just as catchy, chaotic, and charming as it was in 2002.

Released on August 6th that year, the record became the band’s springboard into the pop punk mainstream. With tongue-in-cheek lyrics, punchy hooks, and a real knack for not taking itself too seriously, Drunk Enough To Dance delivered exactly what its name promised—a soundtrack to dumb decisions and great memories.

It’s best known for the Grammy-nominated hit “Girl All the Bad Guys Want,” a song that’s now permanently embedded in the brain of every millennial and early Gen Z alt kid. But the whole record is stacked with overlooked gems like “Emily,” “Punk Rock 101,” and “Life After Lisa,” each one laced with the band’s signature sarcasm and suburban chaos.

In a recent post, the band joked that they’re “still not drunk enough to dance,” but more than happy to thank fans for 23 years of blasting the record in bedrooms, cars, and questionable college moments. And honestly? Same.

Drunk Enough To Dance isn’t just a nostalgic favourite—it’s a snapshot of a moment when pop punk was messy, hilarious, and full of heart. And for a generation of fans, it was an introduction to a band that never really grew up (in the best way possible).

So here’s to 23 years of bad decisions, big suits, and unforgettable choruses. Now hit play and scream along like it’s still 2002.
