Hard to believe it’s been eight whole years since Punk Goes Pop Vol. 7 dropped — and even harder to believe it’s still the most recent volume in the series. Back on July 14, 2017, Fearless Records gave us one last dose of scene bands flipping chart-topping pop songs into chaotic, crunchy anthems. And then… nothing. Silence. Ghosted.
Vol. 7 had some seriously iconic moments — State Champs doing Stitches, Dance Gavin Dance turning That’s What I Like into a prog-core fever dream, and Andy Black teaming up with Juliet Simms for a dramatic take on When We Were Young. It was pure 2010s energy — emotional, theatrical, and a little unhinged in the best way.
Let’s be real: Stitches might be the crown jewel of the album. It’s the most streamed track by far and still lives rent-free in pop punk playlists. It’s the kind of cover that made the Punk Goes series special — taking a track you’d never admit you liked and giving you full permission to scream it in a mosh pit.
So why haven’t we had a Vol. 8? Maybe it’s just not financially safe for Fearless anymore — especially in a world where bands can drop a cover on Spotify or TikTok without breaking the bank. The internet made it easier to DIY a viral cover without needing a compilation to back it. But still, with vinyl booming again, you know a ton of fans would love to see the full series pressed up and brought back in style. Limited runs? Scene collectors would be all over it.
Until then, we’ll keep spinning Vol. 7 — yes, literally, because there was a vinyl pressing — and crossing our fingers that one day, Punk Goes Pop makes a comeback. Vol. 8, you’re missed.
