Connecticut’s rising alt-punk crew Sunday Morning just dropped a new single called “Pulling Thorns”—and it might be their most emotionally charged release to date. Clocking in at just under three minutes, it’s a raw and cathartic ride, led by urgent guitars, gritty vocals, and a chorus that feels like shouting through heartbreak in the middle of the night.
From the first line—“It’s a lot to me. Eternal grief.”—you know exactly where this is going: deep. The band leans into emotional honesty without losing their melodic edge, finding the sweet spot between aggression and vulnerability. There’s a weight to every word, but it never feels forced. It’s the kind of track that fans of Microwave, Rarity, and early Citizen will have on repeat by the second listen.
The music video, directed by Kris Khunachak, strips things back to match the mood. No flash—just raw performances, dim lighting, and a focus on the tension bubbling under the surface. It’s understated, but it works.
“Pulling Thorns” marks the first taste of Sunday Morning’s upcoming full-length album Eternal Grief, due out October 31 via Open Your Ears Records. If this is the tone-setter, expect a record that doesn’t just hit hard sonically—it’ll probably leave a few emotional bruises too.
Still flying slightly under the radar, Sunday Morning has been grinding in the Northeast DIY scene since 2019, sharing stages with acts like Boston Manor, Heart Attack Man, and Homesafe. But with this single—and a full album on the horizon—they’re clearly leveling up.
Whether you’re nursing a broken heart or just in the mood for something real, Pulling Thorns cuts deep in the best way possible.
