Following the bruising chaos of their last single Violent Nature, I Prevail have taken an unexpected turn with their latest track, Into Hell — and it’s one that’s already got fans talking.
Out today, Into Hell dials things down emotionally and sonically, showcasing a more melodic and accessible side of the Detroit metalcore favourites. Opening with a cinematic blend of synths and atmospheric guitar work that wouldn’t feel out of place on a Bad Omens or Architects record, the track quickly sets itself apart from the aggression that defined their previous material.
It’s also a big moment for Eric Vanlerberghe, who takes the spotlight with a surprisingly smooth and emotive vocal performance. While fans are used to hearing Eric bring the heat with guttural roars, here he offers up clean vocals that feel vulnerable and raw. The chorus — “You can drag me through the fire / throw me into the well / you are the closest thing to heaven / I’ll follow you into hell” — lands with a powerful, anthemic punch that’s bound to stick in your head.
There are still hints of the band’s heavier roots, especially toward the final third of the song where some subtle screams linger in the background. But overall, this one leans hard into modern radio rock territory — clean, catchy, and built to be belted out loud.
Into Hell also marks a notable shift in direction as I Prevail move forward without clean vocalist Brian Burkheiser. Longtime fans may find this one reminiscent of recent Architects material, and while it might not break new ground, it does point to an evolving sound that’s both polished and intentionally restrained.
It’s clear I Prevail are entering a new chapter — one that may take a bit of getting used to. Whether you’re all in on this new era or find yourself diving back into the earlier records to chase that familiar edge, one thing’s certain: change is here, and it’s not holding back.
