Wage War have announced their sixth studio album, Landfall, set for release digitally on October 9th via Fearless Records, alongside the record’s title track.
The new album follows 2024’s STIGMA and this year’s ‘IT CALLS ME BY NAME EP’, with the latter already offering a first look at Landfall through “Blindfold” and “Song Of The Swamp”. Both projects were written and recorded back to back, with guitarist and vocalist Cody Quistad taking the production reins for the first time.
For Quistad, the goal was to make a record that unmistakably sounded like Wage War rather than chasing whatever is happening elsewhere in heavy music.
“One of our main goals was to put forth the most identifiable sonic footprint of who we are as a band,” he explains. “We didn’t tie it to anything popular or trendy; we strictly did what we do as Wage War and leaned into it. It’s like we cherry picked the best parts of every iteration of Wage War and turned them up to 11.”
Keeping production within the band was another significant change. Bassist Chris Gaylord says they had traditionally worked with outside producers, but Quistad’s progression across recent records convinced them to keep things in house this time around.
The 13 track Landfall takes its name from the point at which a storm travelling across water reaches land, imagery that also feeds directly into the newly released title track.
“‘Landfall’ is a song about imminent danger and the realisation that we aren’t in control,” the band explain. “Referencing our Florida roots, the hurricane imagery became a way of talking about that feeling of being completely at the mercy of something bigger than yourself.”
The album arrives as Wage War prepare for a busy few months on the road. Their US Emergency Broadcast headline tour with We Came As Romans, Varials and Cane Hill begins on October 25th, before the band head to the UK and Europe in January 2027 with Invent Animate and Windwaker.
Those UK and European dates are set to be Wage War’s biggest headline shows in the region to date, including stops in Cardiff, London, Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham.
