The Story So Far have released a new mini-doc exploring the making of I Want To Disappear, offering a brief but really interesting look at the band’s story and the difficult period leading into the album.
The documentary also goes back to the beginning, touching on how The Story So Far originally formed, how different members joined and how the band developed over the years. It offers a more personal look at Cannon’s story too, including the loss of his father and the influence he had on him, while also exploring some of the struggles the band faced in the years leading up to I Want To Disappear and the difficult period surrounding the album’s creation.
Within the opening minute, Parker Cannon admits that grind had left him “falling out of love with the band”, with The Story So Far beginning to feel more like a job than something he enjoyed.
“We were tired,” Cannon explains. “We had been recording and touring for like over 10 years at that point, and there was kind of like a non-stop grind.”
He says the members were also trying to work out their individual relationships with the band and each other, eventually reaching a point where they felt “dejected” and unhappy with what they had been doing.
For Cannon, it became serious enough to question whether The Story So Far had reached the end.
“It felt very lost and it was definitely for me a time of wondering if that was the end.”
Of course, that ultimately led to I Want To Disappear, which arrived in June 2024 as the band’s first album in six years.
The mini-doc is a short but genuinely interesting watch, giving some extra context to the band’s history and where they were heading into I Want To Disappear. The Making of I Want To Disappear is available to watch now on YouTube!
