Super Sometimes are keeping things moving with the release of their new single and video ‘Make Up Stories’, the latest track from their upcoming debut album Show The World What’s Underneath, which lands May 15 via Pure Noise Records.
The track follows on from ‘Afterthought’ and continues the same storyline, with the band explaining it centres around “the same person who mistreated you crawling back, trying to beg and manipulate their way back into your life.” They lean into that idea lyrically, using themes like a court trial and a game of chess to break down a messy relationship dynamic.
It’s also a clear step forward for the band musically. “This track showcased significant growth in musicianship between the three of us,” they say. “It was more sophisticated than anything we had done before, and it truly opened our eyes, kicking the door down for us to go all in musically on this record.”
The upcoming album looks set to be a big moment for the San Diego trio. Show The World What’s Underneath pulls from across the pop punk spectrum, blending that early 2000s energy with a more modern edge. Across ten tracks, they dive into everything from growing pains to relationships, all while pushing themselves further than they have before.
They’ve also been working with some serious names behind the scenes, including Nick Casasanto from Knuckle Puck, Chris Freeman from Hot Mulligan and producer Kyle Black, which gives you a good idea of where this record sits in the current scene.
To back it all up, Super Sometimes are heading out on a North American run supporting Arm’s Length later this month, before hitting Japan and appearing at Vans Warped Tour later in the year.

With ‘Make Up Stories’ out now and the album just weeks away, this feels like the point where things properly step up for them.
