Basement Share New Single ‘The Way I Feel’ Ahead of First Album in Eight Years

UK alt rock favourites Basement are back with another new track, and this one feels like a big moment.

The band have just dropped “The Way I Feel”, the latest single from their upcoming album Wired, which lands May 8 via Run For Cover Records. It’s their first full-length release in over eight years, so yeah, this one’s been a long time coming.

“The Way I Feel” leans into a more raw, live-sounding energy, thanks to producer John Congleton. It’s built around a big, anthemic chorus and has that sweaty, packed room feel to it, the kind of track that instantly puts you in the middle of a crowd.

Frontman Andrew Fisher shared some insight into the meaning behind it, saying the track is about being right on the edge of a major decision. “Constantly questioning whether you have the courage to stand up for yourself and fight your side, while at the same time begging for forgiveness and acknowledgement,” he explains. He also hints there’s a bit of tongue-in-cheek in there too, adding that listeners might have to figure out what’s meant and what’s not.

It’s the third look at Wired so far, following the title track and “Broken By Design”, and it’s shaping up to be a proper statement record. The band have made it clear they didn’t want this one to sit in the middle, it’s meant to divide opinion, not play it safe.

This new era also marks a return to Run For Cover Records, the label they started with, and a fresh reset after time away from the band. After stepping back and questioning whether Basement would even continue, they’ve come back sounding more locked in than ever.

WIRED

With festival slots lined up across Europe and a big UK appearance at All Points East later this summer, it feels like Basement are stepping back into things properly, just on their own terms this time.
