Knocked Loose aren’t exactly known for playing it safe, but their new single “Hive Mind” still feels like a proper moment. The band have teamed up with Denzel Curry for the track, and instead of feeling like a gimmick or a forced crossover, it sounds exactly like what it should be: heavy, aggressive, and completely locked in.
This isn’t one of those rap and rock collabs where it feels like two different songs stitched together. Denzel fits straight into the band’s world, which is exactly why he was the first name that came up when the idea was being discussed. As vocalist Bryan Garris put it, they always said if they were going to do something like this, it had to be Denzel, because he actually gets it.
If you’ve seen his cover of Rage Against The Machine’s “Bulls On Parade,” you’ll know he’s not just dipping a toe into heavy music. He’s been around it for years, and that shows all over “Hive Mind.” It hits with the same intensity fans expect from Knocked Loose, just with a new edge that keeps things interesting.
The single is the band’s first new music since their 2024 album You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To, which pushed them further into the spotlight and even earned a Grammy nomination for “Suffocate” featuring Poppy. Since then, they’ve gone from heavy scene favourites to a band crossing into the mainstream without losing what made them exciting in the first place.
“Hive Mind” feels like the next step in that run. It’s bold, it’s unexpected, and it still sounds completely like Knocked Loose. And with a run of European dates supporting Metallica this summer, including stops at Slam Dunk, there’s a good chance a lot of people are about to hear it live for the first time.
If this is the direction they’re heading, things are only getting heavier.
