Spanish Love Songs Just Dropped a Surprise Track—and It Might Break You in Half

Spanish Love Songs are back with something new—and something old. Their latest release, Lifers Too, is a surprise emotional gut-punch that fans didn’t see coming. Described by frontman Dylan Slocum as a “companion story” to the fan-favourite Lifers, this track was originally written during the sessions for their 2023 album No Joy, but never quite found its full-band groove—until now.

Spanish Live Songs – Lifers Too

In true Spanish Love Songs fashion, Lifers Too is devastating and beautifully honest. Slocum calls it a song about “selfishness and the cognitive dissonance of planning for a future you don’t see yourself having”—which, if you’ve ever cried in a car at night, you’ll probably relate to. It was originally stripped down and acoustic, and this new version expands on that raw foundation without losing the intimacy. It’s the final instalment in the band’s No Joy Sessions series, which reimagined cuts from the album in softer, starker tones.

And while Lifers Too might feel like a quiet farewell to this era, the band is far from slowing down. Spanish Love Songs are gearing up for a massive run of live dates, starting with Furnace Fest in Alabama this October. Then they’re headed across Europe and the UK for a string of headline shows before joining the new travelling festival Common Thread, playing alongside the likes of Hot Water Music, Comeback Kid, and Joyce Manor.

For those who missed the No Joy wave—where were you? The album was hailed as a modern classic by outlets like Kerrang!, Brooklyn Vegan, and Rodeo Magazine, who praised its existential themes, stripped-back sincerity, and unflinching lyricism. Produced by Collin Pastore (Lucy Dacus, Julien Baker) and mixed by Carlos de la Garza (Paramore, M83), the record cemented Spanish Love Songs as the voice of a generation that’s chronically online and emotionally wrecked.

With Lifers Too, they’ve found a way to close this chapter while cracking it wide open all over again. It’s haunting, relatable, and a perfect reminder of why we keep coming back to this band whenever life feels like too much.
